Family

El Geco Verde is a family friendly hotel with very keen prices and lots for the kids to see and do.

El Geco Verde Pool

With families in mind we built extra spacious rooms, so up to five people can comfortably share the space and keep the costs down.
Our five family rooms are all extremely spacious (around 30sqm, not including bathrooms). That means plenty of space for a double bed and up to three single beds. In three of our family rooms it is possible to put two double beds, so let us know if an arrangement like this would suit you best. We are happy to provide cots free of charge, by prior arrangement. All our family rooms have private bathrooms, four of them en suite. Our ground floor family room has been subtly adapted for wheelchair users.

We offer super spacious family rooms for three four or five people for €80/€95/€110 a night, breakfast and taxes included.

Our little hotel is family friendly in other ways too. Kids under 4 years old stay for free. Kids of 10 and under pay €10 rather than €15 for their evening meal, kids under five eat for €5. If your child has special dietary requirements or would prefer a simple alternative to the main course on offer, that´s no problem either; we are more than happy to work out options with you in advance of the meal.

Having kids ourselves means we have a stockpile of DVDs, books and toys which can be shared with little visitors. And in the salon we have a range of parlour and table games to keep the kids amused (and hopefully their parents too).

Lola the dogFurry friends
We have a lovely friendly dog called Lola who always accompanies guests on short walks and loves to be stroked and petted.
We also have half a dozen free range hens.
Egg-collecting appeals to many young visitors, while feeding all those hungry mouths (and beaks) is also great fun for small people.
If your kids are animal-mad consider going on the farm visit, where they can see horses, goats, pigs etc. This can be combined with bread and cheese making workshops, so they can learn as they play.

Young kids
Alongside all the great adventure activities in the great outdoors one of the most popular past-times for the young ones is pizza making; this is also great for a cheap lunch one day when the parents aren´t keen on an early morning departure (see Hotel based activities).

Trout fishing
A favorite excursion for budding anglers is a visit to the trout farm in a beautiful setting in the foothills of La Sagra mountain.

Kids will love the simple bamboo rod and sweetcorn bait and are pretty much guaranteed to catch a fish or two.

Young adults
Among the activities for older kids visiting El Geco Verde, canyoning undoubtedFamily Canyoningly tops the list. It´s suitable for ages 6 and upwards but it does require a degree of stamina. The action alternates between wading, jumping abseiling and floating. No previous experience is necessary and you don´t have to be much of a swimmer as wetsuits give bouyancy. However, if you get vertigo easily, or your fitness level is below average, it´s probably not for you.

Wild swimming is another really enjoyable activity for the summer months, while those who prefer more conventional waters should check out the outdoor swimming pool in Castril, which is both vast and idyllic.

Ask us about family passes if you think you may visit the pool a few times during your stay.

Hotel Pool
In the summer months the hotel´s 24sqm splash pool is a great place to keep cool. Obviously parents are requested to accompany any non-swimmers, but the pool is overlooked by the main guest terrace, so mums and dads can easily keep an eye on older ones. It´s an above-ground pool so the stairs can be removed completely to prevent access when there are no adults around, but we do ask parents to be remain vigilant nevertheless.

Of the remaining activities, rafting, horse riding, mountain biking and kayaking are all firm favourites. Larger groups and visiting families often come together for farm visits and the guided tour of the night sky.

Budding archaeologists should be sure to pay a visit to the Bronze Age village of Castellon Alto and the prehistory museums of Galera and Orce. There may even be a live dig or workshop going on which you could visit while you are in the area!
